Pennsylvania high school football players charged as adults in alleged rape of 14-year-old at gunpoint

Three members of the Central York High School football team have been charged as adults for the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl at gunpoint, the York Daily Record reports.

According to court documents, the arrest of Kelvin J. Mercedes, Andrew R. Miller and Daishon M. Richardson -- all 16 years old -- comes after a two month investigation into the alleged sexual assault by the York County District Attorney's Office.

The three have been charged with rape, forcible compulsion, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, unlawful restraint and terroristic threats before being released Wednesday night after posting bond and agreeing to be monitored.

According to West York Police Detective Michael Mendez Sr., the victim said she knew the teens before the incident and easily identified them by their names.

Interviewed by police, the girl said she was at the York Fair with friends and saw the three suspects following them.

She said the boys told her they wanted to show her something and she followed them to a parking lot where she claims Mercedes put a gun to her head and forced her to perform a sexual act on all three of them. She was later taken to another area and sexually assaulted a second time by all three.

According to Detective Mendez, the gun allegedly used during the assault has not been found, but pictures of it have been shared on social media.

Following the assault, the girl went home, told a relative what had happened and was taken to York Hospital for a forensic rape examination, leading hospital staff to contact the police.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 11.
