Philly police commissioner defends two cops who arrested black men for doing nothing in Starbucks

The two Philadelphia police officers who were doing nothing in a Starbucks have received a vote of confidence from their police commissioner.

CNN reports that Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said over the weekend that the two officers shown in the video "did nothing wrong," as they were simply doing their jobs when called in by the Starbucks staff.

"They did a service that they were called to do," he said. "And if you think about it logically, that if a business calls and they say that someone is here that I no longer wish to be in my business, (officers) now have a legal obligation to carry out their duties. And they did just that."

Ross, who is black, also said that it was important to be sensitive to racial issues when it comes to making arrests.

"As an African-American male, I am very aware of implicit bias," he said. "We are committed to fair and unbiased policing and anything less than that will not be tolerated in this department."

An employee at the Starbucks called police because the two black men were sitting in the cafe and hadn't yet ordered anything. However, according to an eyewitness account, the two men were simply waiting for one of their friends to arrive.
