‘The president has no leverage!’ Fox & Friends calls BS on Kellyanne Conway’s latest border wall spin

Kellyanne Conway on Wednesday found herself facing surprisingly sharp questioning from "Fox & Friends" about funding President Donald Trump's proposed border wall.

While discussing Trump seemingly backing away from a plan to shut down the government unless he got funding for his border wall, co-host Brian Kilmeade fumed that the president looked powerless thanks to congressional Republicans who haven't even been willing to put forward a bill funding the wall.

"The president really has no leverage because the Republicans didn't plan for a vote!" he fumed. "The $5 billion [in wall funding] couldn't even get through the House!"

Conway then tried to reassure Kilmeade that Trump had some secret way to fund the wall even if Congress didn't approve it.

"There are other ways to get that money," she said. "And he said... one way or another, he'll get the money for border security."

This proved to be too much for co-host Ainsley Earhardt, who told Conway that it sounded like Trump was shrugging off his core campaign pledge.

"People who voted for him, and want the wall, and went to the polls to vote for that wall, they want to know how he's going to do this," she said. "And they want to know why he seems to be softening his stance this morning."

"The president is not softening his stance!" Conway replied. "He has a responsibility to keep the government moving forward."
