Biracial teen labeled 'George Floyd' on receipt by local Jiffy Lube

A biracial teenager is angry after being labeled "George Floyd" on a receipt from a local Jiffy Lube station.

Local news station KGW8 reports that Vancouver, Washington resident Dustin Hawkins was shocked when he picked up his car from Jiffy Lube and saw that someone had labeled him "George Floyd" on the receipt.

"I handed the paperwork to my sister because I was going to read it later and she said, 'Dustin, why did you tell them your name was George Floyd,' and I go, 'What?'" he told KGW8. "That was some blatant racism."

Hawkins said he was particularly upset that the name of George Floyd, the Black man whose death at the hands of police sparked nationwide outrage last year, is now being used as a racial pejorative.

"I can't imagine [the Floyd family would] be okay with a big name corporation throwing around their deceased brother, son, throwing around his name like that," he said.

Jiffy Lube said that it is investigating the incident, which it called unacceptable.

"Each Jiffy Lube service center is independently owned and operated, so we are engaging with the franchisee to understand how such a deeply disturbing incident occurred and to ensure that immediate and effective action is taken to address this incident with the appropriate parties," the company said.
