On Monday, Patti Davis, the daughter of Nancy and Ronald Reagan compared President Donald Trump's behavior to that of a child in an article for The Washington Post.
Davis pointed out the role of a parent and how they are tasked with making their children feel safe.
"They were the first adults we knew, and we relied on them to lead us into a big, unfamiliar world," she wrote. "We only knew we were supposed to hold their hands and trust them to keep us from falling."
She then explained that as the president of the United States, Trump has a parental-like role to fulfill for our country.
"There is an inherently parental role to being president of the United States. The person holding that office is supposed to know more than we do about the dangers facing the country and the world and is entrusted with making the appropriate decisions to keep us safe and secure," Davis wrote.
This is not the first time Trump's behavior has been compared to a child. Psychologists have said that it is actually insulting children --to be compared to the president.
"Donald Trump is a dangerous person, and he occupies a position of unparalleled power. That is the reality that faces the country and the world. Stop insulting children and adolescents by comparing him to them, and hold him accountable for his own offenses," developmental psychologists Jeffrey Jensen Arnett and Lene Arnett Jensen wrote in a letter to The New York Times.
Davis went on to explain that children laugh when they see the president on TV namecalling and stirring up drama. She noted that Trump demeaned a woman's looks by calling her "horse force," and often dismiss reporters serious questions as "stupid."
"Nine-year-olds should be able to look up to the president of the United States, not feel that the president is one of them," she wrote. "What will happen if the country faces serious danger?"
