You can see it in the eyes of the people aligned behind President Donald Trump as he makes his campaign speeches nowadays, not so much dead eyes as dread eyes, the type that question why they are at another Trump speech, what is so appealing about this guy, and whether they feel much of anything nowadays.
Donald Trump is not dead, and yet he is dead, at least politically, and all one needs is the look in the eyes of the crowd behind him. He is also deeply disturbed.
Now, of course, we have known since 2015 that something about Trump was deeply disturbing; that's not new news, as they say. But the dread in the crowds is new, or at least newer, more extreme, approaching, just approaching, some self-loathing.
Remember back when? In 2016, it was delirium as opposed to dread. Trump was larger than life. They and he lived to "own the libs," remember? When was the last time you heard, "Owned, Libtard!" Even some of us who spend our own dread-like lives swimming in political soup haven't run into that in a long time.
He has had it. He's done. Ask the crowd. Or at least he is making noises that most associate with dying. During his last three speeches, he's made some noise, a weird "guhggu" — certainly not a word, kind of like if a guy could hiccup and burp at the same time. The noise itself comes out sounding as if IT is confused as to its purpose, unleashed into our atmospheric ocean with no purpose, no meaning, a lot like his current presidency.
Really tough to tell what's going on there because it looks intentional and yet intentional about what? And it wasn't a one-time, gaseous-sounding thing. Above was South Carolina, but the same happened at a rally in Iowa.

So, what is going on? He had another one at a different rally, but you get the point: on three occasions, the man has made some indecipherable noise. Jimmy Fallon joked that Trump has had so many MRIs that he's now starting to sound like one. That's a little too close to the truth to just be a joke.
Here is what is not a joke. Trump always wandered off the path during his speeches. We'd hear about sharks and batteries, but he spent more time talking about his actual politics. Lately, he has had some real fixation with good-looking men, which is fine. Certainly, the more he's interested in men, the safer the women around him, but given what we know about him, this is less weird than symptomatic.
Trump exhibits a lot of symptoms regarding various traits, but most were more pathological than medical, and yet now we have to confront the horror of the collision taking place in one presidential head. For all the hell thrown at Joe Biden, who, at least, we knew was not in any way pathological but instead devastatingly nice, it is shocking how little attention the media pays to Trump's neurological degradation. Which made the following a bit refreshing, as reported by The Metro:
"Now it appears he’s taken to ‘glitching’ during his presidential rallies – and it’s left us all scratching our heads."
The article went on to describe the noises, but — and you're just going to have to extend some trust here — there are no letters that describe the noise itself. Of course, that's not all: he is falling asleep during meetings, he makes up his own words, finds himself the only one laughing at his jokes, but most disturbingly, he is lashing out more often, and more venomously. We all roiled about this:
It is the addition of "little" regarding the reporter in there that lands with an extra punch.
And he's also getting more profane. Some people believe that his "uptick" in crude language proves the development of dementia, and yet, according to an expert in The New York Times, the answer is more mundane, yet also more indicative:
"Profanity is all about escalation."
It is that escalation that returns right back around to the point about the dead-eyed crowds. Whatever it was that he once had, he doesn't have it anymore, and we likely cannot ascribe it to any one thing. Is he older and getting a bit more cognitively challenged? Very much so. We will all hopefully live long enough to go through such stages; he's doing so as president of the United States. Just as importantly, the crowd has aged with him, having seen all this before, like an '80s hairband still on tour with two memorable songs, Trump is played out with all he has; profanity may be all he really has left. He is falling asleep during meetings, has a major case of cankles, the hands, and God only knows what is really going on with all the giraffe, duck, dog, shark tests.
Someone thinks he might be losing it. But it sure isn't the media, or at least not enough. The crowds know, though, and at least on that issue, there is more reporting.
After all, every ounce of power Trump once had came from his invulnerability to any scandal, any policy, so long as his supporters could write, "Owned, Libtard!" it was all good. Trump knows he cannot survive without that kind of unquestioned, energetic love.
He can't find it anymore, and neither can they. We leave interpretation of the noises to the imagination of the reader.
