Republican complains: Newer lawmakers oppose Obamacare but never had a chance to vote against it

A House Republican said the Affordable Care Act should be delayed or defunded because many newer lawmakers weren't in office to vote against it.

Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) was among a group of 79 House Republicans who signed on to a letter urging House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to tie funding to President Barack Obama's signature legislation to any budget resolution passed by the House, setting up a federal government shutdown.

"We thought it was important to stand with principle that, since (the) 2010 elections, the Republicans (have been) very clear: We don't like Obamacare but never had a chance to actually vote on it," Huelskamp told NBC News on Tuesday.

The Affordable Care Act was signed into law March 30, 2010, more than seven months before Huelskamp and other Republicans helped win a majority in the House of Representatives.
