'They've really lost the plot': CNN conservative says GOP is 'having a tough time'
Republicans are returning to their home districts to face constituents who are angry and fearful over Elon Musk's evisceration of the federal government, and a conservative commentator explained how they've "lost the plot."
Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC) faced a rowdy crowd Thursday evening in Asheville, North Carolina, as he attempted to justify the DOGE cuts and Donald Trump's handling of the economy, and conservative pundit S.E. Cupp told "CNN News Central" that GOP lawmakers are failing to meet the moment.
"Well, as as folks have noted, good for him for going," Cupp said. "He spent 89 minutes there despite GOP leadership saying, you don't have to go to these anymore. You shouldn't in a Kamala [Harris] plus-24 district, right? But it should be said, these kind of clashes are happening in places like Texas, Kansas, Georgia and North Carolina – red states that went for Trump, so it's not just angry liberals. I think for Republicans to have to defend Republican policies to a veteran, and that guy was not the only veteran we saw, that's true."

"They've really lost the plot, they've lost a key constituent," she added. "They've lost the idea of who they're doing this for and what the point of cutting government is for. It's to make it leaner and smarter and better for veterans and everyone else, so I think there's there's a lot of there's a lot of consternation among voters. That's obvious, but I also think Republicans are having a tough time defending the chaos that Trump is overseeing right now."
CNN host Kate Bolduan noticed that, as well.
"You see kind of this like this hot outrage and we and we bring it to show people kind of what's out there," Bolduan said. "It also just makes me kind of sad because that what I saw in there was like pain and fear."
