Dem lawmaker reads RFK Jr. the riot act in 'testy' $20 billion blow-up
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ran into a buzzsaw on Wednesday morning as he was grilled by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) over billions of spending cuts proposed by Donald Trump's administration.
As MSNBC's Anna Cabrera was asking questions about Trump's secretary of health and human services appearing before a House committee today for the first time since he was sworn in, MSNBC reporter Julie Tsirkin shared video of the exchange between DeLauro and Kennedy and called it a "testy hearing to put it lightly."
"How then can you justify cutting a $20 billion from the biomedical research budget," an incensed DeLauro demanded.
"If you appropriate the money to me I'm going to spend it," he parried.
"We have appropriated, Mr. Secretary," she exclaimed.

"I'm going to spend it," he replied.
"Then you're going to spend you're not going to cut $20 billion from the NIH," she pressed.
"The White House proposal is to do a very, very large cuts in NIH," he explained before sitting back in his chair.
"That is contrary to the money appropriated!" DeLauro lectured him.
"I remember, if Congress appropriates the money, I'm going to spend the money," he stated.
