Rick Gates still cooperating with Mueller’s team in ‘several ongoing investigations’: New court filing

Prosecutors aren't finished questioning former Trump campaign deputy chairman Rick Gates.

The longtime Paul Manafort associate entered a cooperation agreement as part of his February 2018 guilty plea to conspiracy against the United States and lying to the FBI, and has provided testimony and other evidence to special counsel Robert Mueller.

The special counsel's team was required to provide a status report to a judge before setting a possible sentencing date for Gates, but investigators said they still needed additional testimony from the former Trump campaign official.

"(Gates) continues to cooperate with respect to several ongoing investigations," attorneys told the court, according to NPR's Carrie Johnson, "and accordingly the parties do not believe it is appropriate to commence the sentencing process at this time."

Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman, was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison on fraud and other charges, and he was indicted Wednesday by the Manhattan district attorney on real estate fraud charges.

The special counsel's office asked for an additional 60 days before providing the court with another update.
