Wisconsin GOP leader under attack from the man he hired to prove Trump's fraud theories

Once upon a time, retired Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman was hired by the state's top Republican to help prove former President Donald Trump's conspiracy theories that the 2020 election was stolen.

Now, a disgruntled Gableman is trying to take his former employer down.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, "Former state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman represented a group of Racine County-area supporters of Trump who have launched two recall campaigns against Assembly Speaker Robin Vos during a Thursday night meeting of the Wisconsin Elections Commission. Commissioners rejected the group's first recall effort citing a lack of valid signatures." Specifically, they have been accused of forging signatures, and collecting other signatures from people who are too young to vote.

Gableman's blood vendetta against Vos dates back to 2021, when Vos hired him to investigate the claims of ballot irregularities in the state following President Joe Biden's narrow win there.

Immediately, Gableman began to alienate even Republicans with his odd behavior. On one occasion, he demanded courts arrest two mayors who hadn't replied to his emails he had sent them under a pseudonym that went into their spam folders. He was also held in contempt of court by a state judge who was fed up with his rambling courtroom speeches.

Eventually, Vos had enough of Gableman's antics as the legal costs associated with his misadventures mounted, and canceled his contract. From that point on, Gableman worked to topple Vos from power, at one point backing his primary challenger.

For his part, Gableman blames the ballot signature problems in the current Vos recall campaigns on spies who may have been planted by Vos.

"On Thursday, Gableman became combative with commissioners and commission staff and at one point suggested the efforts of the group he represented had been 'infiltrated' and alluded to potential involvement by Vos without providing evidence," said the Sentinel's report. "'(The petitioners), in fact, had a two hour meeting with the FBI because they, and based on what I've heard and read, I believe that recall 1.0 was intentionally sabotaged, it was infiltrated by outsiders from New York and Florida,' Gableman said. 'I can't say whether it was done at the behest of Robin Vos or on his behalf.'"
