Influential podcaster Joe Rogan was raked over the coals on Thursday morning after professing to be completely in the dark about corruption allegations targeting Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Rogan, based in Austin, appeared to play dumb as Texas comedian Ron White called Paxton — running for U.S. Senate in their state — a "piece of s---" and detailed criminal charges that led to impeachment proceedings.
“I don’t know enough about him," Rogan replied, "but I do know that they’re surprised that [Democrat James] Talarico’s ahead of him in the polls.”
This clip prompted "Morning Joe" co-host Joe Scarborough to flip out on Rogan.
“That is such a classic move," the MS NOW host exclaimed. "It's a — ‘I don't know enough.'"
Scarborough honed in, noting Rogan lives in Texas, interviews politicians regularly and talks about news almost every day.
"This whole thing about 'I don't know about Ken Paxton,'" Scarborough said. "Did Joe Rogan really say that?“
Co-host Willie Geist doubled down on the criticism.
“Joe Rogan is a smart guy who's engaged in this stuff," he said. "I don't buy it for a minute that he doesn't know about Paxton, why he would carry the water for Ken Paxton, who [conservative journalist] David Drucker says is the most corrupt politician he has ever covered.”
