Judge compares Rudy Giuliani to 'defendants without any legal training' in court scolding

U.S. District Court Judge Beryl Howell scolded Rudy Giuliani, a longtime attorney, for behaving like "defendants without any legal training" after he submitted a petition without signing it.

In a ruling on Wednesday, Howell denied Giuliani's request for extending a deadline to explain why he shouldn't be held in contempt after he continued to defame Ruby Freeman and Wandrea "Shaye" Moss, two former Georgia election workers who won a $148 million judgment against him.

After missing a deadline to reply to the motion to hold him in contempt, Howell granted Giuliani a chance to explain why he should be allowed an extension.

"The primary reason for this requested extension is that I need more time to find an attorney to represent me in this matter, especially now that Plaintiffs are making allegations seeking civil contempt," Giuliani wrote.

Giuliani claimed attorneys refused to take the case because the judge was "unreasonable and biased."

Before the day was over, Howell denied the petition and criticized Giuliani because the "request was submitted to the Court via letter without defendant's signature, for failure to comply with applicable procedural rules, since even defendants without any legal training and proceeding pro se are required to comply with procedural rules, and this defendant, though pro se, has previously been a practicing attorney with a history of significant government legal positions."
