Donald Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani lashed out at special counsel Robert Mueller for his headline-grabbing plea deal with the president's former "fixer" Michael Cohen coming just before the G20 summit in Argentina.
In a statement to Politico, the former New York City mayor said it's "hardly" coincidental that Mueller reached the deal "just as the President is leaving for a meeting with world leaders."
Giuliani added that Mueller "did the very same thing as the President was leaving for a world summit in Helsinki," referencing the special counsel's 2017 indictment of 12 Russians for the hacks of the Democratic National Committee's email servers that came down days before Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a summit between their two nations.
The report noted that there is "no evidence that Mueller sought, in either case, to overshadow Trump’s travel" -- but that it did overshadow it nonetheless.
