New GOP dig shows childless attacks not just a 'savvy political calculation': MSNBC host

Despite intense backlash to Sen. J.D. Vance's criticism of "childless cat ladies," an MSNBC host noted Tuesday that now that yet another Republican waded into the childless attacks, the GOP has shown these are more than just political attacks.

Ahead of Donald Trump's town hall in Flint, Michigan, on Tuesday, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-AR) told rally-goers, "My kids keep me humble," as she teed up an attack on Vice President Kamala Harris.

"Unfortunately, Kamala Harris doesn't have anything keeping her humble," said Sanders, an apparent jab that Harris does not have biological children.

Harris is, however, the stepmother to two children, Cole and Ella Emhoff, through her marriage to Doug Emhoff.

Sanders' comments come after Vance's controversial comments about "childless cat ladies" resurfaced — and even garnered a jab from Taylor Swift, who posted a photo of her and her cat as she endorsed Harris.

In a July 2021 interview on Fox News with then-host Tucker Carlson, Vance said the nation was being governed by "childless cat ladies" who are "miserable in their own lives and the decisions they've made, and they want to spread that misery to the rest of the country."

Vance specifically mentioned Vice President Kamala Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and said "the entire future of the Democratic Party is controlled by people without children" — people, he argued, who don't have a "direct stake" in the country's future.

On Tuesday evening, Chris Hayes, host of "All In" on MSNBC, remarked that Sanders' doubling down on the GOP attack reveals it's more than just a political tactic.

"I'll say this: at this point this isn't some savvy political calculation: they genuinely, as an ideological matter, have contempt for people without children," he wrote on X.

He later jabbed Sanders in the comment section of his post, calling out it's, "also kinda funny to brag about how humble you are!"
