Scott Walker approved Wisconsin election rules that could prevent him from seeking a recount

Gov. Scott Walker signed a bill earlier this year that could prevent him from seeking a recount.

The Wisconsin Republican appears to have lost his re-election bid to Democrat Tony Evers, who holds a razor-thin lead over Walker, reported the New York Times.

Evers, the state schools superintendent, leads by about 30,000 votes out of 2.6 million cast.

Walker has not conceded as of late Wednesday morning, and his running mate, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, said overnight that a recount might be coming.

But election officials said the governor would not be able to request one, thanks to a new set of rules he approved.

Under the new rules, second-place finishers are prevented from requesting a recount if they lost by more than 1 percent.

With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Walker appears to have lost by 1.2 percent.
