Sinéad O'Connor found safe after she was reported missing in the Chicago area

Sinéad O'Connor has been found safe after she was reported missing in the Chicago area.

The Wilmette Beacon reported that O'Connor was staying with friends. She is safe and no longer listed as a missing person.

The Irish singer-songwriter was last seen about 6 a.m. Sunday in Wilmette riding a Raleigh motorized bicycle with a pink basket and wearing black parka and black leather pants, reported the WGN-TV.

A friend called police about 1 p.m. Sunday to express concern for the 49-year-old O'Connor's well-being, but police released no other details about the case.

She was in Chicago after taking part in a March tribute concert to the late David Bowie.

O'Connor, who scored her biggest hit in 1990 with a cover of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U," made news earlier this month when she accused comedian Arsenio Hall of furnishing drugs to the late pop superstar.

Hall responded to the claims with a lawsuit.

O'Connor has struggled with drugs herself in recent years, and she received medical care in November after leaving an angry suicidal note for family members.

She infamously tore a photo of Pope John Paul II in half during an October 1992 appearance on "Saturday Night Live" to protest child abuse by Catholic clergy, although her motivations were largely misunderstood.
