During their opening segment, Saturday Night Live mocked Fox News coverage of the US military's "Don't ask, don't tell" (DADT) policy. The bit featured impressions of Greta Van Susteren, Karl Rove, Oliver North, Robert Gibbs and a woman referred to only as Attractive Blonde Lady.
Asked for their views on DADT, Rove chimed in. "Don't ask, don't tell allows members of our military to be gay, but not too gay. So we get the Wills from Will & Grace, but not the Jacks."
North agreed, "The Neil Patrick Harrises but not the Elton Johns."
Next Van Susteren asked, "Is America under attack? Let's go to our expert on the subject, Glenn Beck."
Standing in front of a chalkboard, Beck replied, "You know I wanna tell you all a little story. There was a man... Oh God... I promised myself I wouldn't cry. There was a man named George Washington and he's dead. And all the gays in the world can't bring him back to life."
Gathering himself, he added, "There is no "I" in liberty."
The best part of the segment was arguably North's DADT warning.
"If we give gay men and gay women equal rights, pretty soon we'll be giving all Americans equal rights, and then where will we be?"
RAWSTORY previously covered SNL's spoof of Fox's 'end of an era' election coverage. And SNL also created a movie trailer spoof predicting apocalypse in response to rumors of a Palin/Beck 2012 presidential ticket.
