'This is so wrong': Onlookers slam Pam Bondi for signaling DOJ won't investigate war chats
March 27, 2025
Attorney general Pam Bondi signaled that she was unlikely to open a criminal investigation into a group chat by Donald Trump's officials on a third-party platform to plan a military operation.
The attorney general was asked at an unrelated news conference about defense secretary Pete Hegseth disclosing details about a pending attack on Houthi rebels in Yemen over the encrypted Signal app without knowing a reporter had been added to the group by national security adviser, but Bondi echoed comments made by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
“It was sensitive information, not classified, and inadvertently released,” Bondi said. “If you want to talk about classified information, talk about what was in Hillary Clinton’s home. Talk about the classified documents in Joe Biden’s garage, that Hunter Biden had access to.”

The Justice Department investigated the former secretary of state and Joe Biden's son in both instances, but neither ultimately faced criminal charges in the those probes, and her lack of concern bothered many social media users.
"This is so wrong," said former GOP lawmaker Joe Walsh. "She’s supposed to be America’s lawyer. She’s not supposed to be partisan at all. But instead, she’s clearly Trump’s lawyer. And she’s terribly partisan."
"But you said she was serious," posted MSNBC's Matt Negrin.
"The only legitimate reason for not investigations because you don’t believe a crime was committed, not because 'the mission was successful,'" said MSNBC legal analyst and former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance on Thursday.
"This headline is framed to help make the story disappear, making it sound like this is an expert offering a frank assessment of the reality of the situation rather than a decision Bondi herself is making, for corrupt reasons," noted widely followed Bluesky user mtsw, criticizing the New York Times'coverage. "Don't print lies in the newspaper."
"Bondi isn't the AG. She's Trump's personal lawyer," added Bluesky user Jason Betzner. "She's a hack and I have no faith in her as someone who will protect the rule of law."
"The lack of accountability administration," said film producer Franklin Leonard.
"Pam Bondi thinks her job is to do Public Relations for the administration, not enforce laws (for example, the Espionage Act) even when breached by her own administration," posted humorist Mrs. Betty Bowers. "She is not good at being an AG, hence her taking a bribe from Trump to drop a solid case against his consumer fraud university."
"The statute refers to revealing 'defense information,'" added broadcaster Keith Olbermann. "The word 'classified' has nothing to do with any of this. Also she's a 3rd-String Political Clown."
