Soledad O'Brien smacks down Meghan McCain for 'socialism' rant: 'You were having a full-fledged freak out'

Republican commentator Meghan McCain's outburst on "The View" Tuesday sparked a Twitter battle with Soledad O'Brien.

O'Brien tweeted a clip of McCain's video posted by BuzzFeed reporter Dorsey Shaw, who noted McCain's "inherited wealth." O'Brien's commentary was merely, "Full on freak out."

The tweet garnered so much attention that McCain responded, telling O'Brien to "get a life" and claiming "I’m passionate and don’t want my grandkids growing up in a socialist nation."

O'Brien shot back that she has a busy life with four children and her own small business, while doing some television shows.

"Watch [your] video. You were having a full-fledged freak out. It undermined your argument. You should work on that," O'Brien said.

McCain is the daughter of wealthy parents and her career has benefited from her father's 2004 campaign for president and his prominence in the Republican Party.

"Gentle reminder Meghan McCain is one of the owners of the [Federalist]," noted one of O'Brien's followers. She responded saying she'd forgotten about that fact.

“The problem with socialism, in the words of Margaret Thatcher, is: at a certain point, you run out of spending other people’s money,'” McCain said on Tuesday. “Venezuela, one of the richest countries in the world in the 70s — now the average Venezuelan has lost 24 pounds because they’re starving to death. Ninty percent of the country is living in poverty. This is what I need from her. Name one country [where] socialism has ever worked.”

The conversation was about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has advocated publicly funded healthcare similar to Canada and several countries in Eruope.
