Stephen Colbert said the Republican debate was held in the perfect location: Las Vegas.
"The stakes are high, there's a lot of money riding on long shots, most people are betting it all on red -- or really, orange," he said, flashing a photo of GOP frontrunner Donald Trump.
Colbert seemed a bit baffled why CNN had hired conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, who he described as "Republican Anderson Cooper," to moderate the debate.
He showed a litany of candidates attacking one another -- but he said Jeb Bush landed a few solid blows against the frontrunner, especially when he warned Trump that he could not insult his way to the presidency.
"Strong words, though I'm not sure that Jeb is right. Remember how FDR clinched the nomination at the '32 convention?" Colbert said, showing doctored footage of the 32nd president. "I understand why my opponent is called Hoover -- because he sucks."
He then went on an extended riff about the bizarre letter released by Trump's doctor stating that he "unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency."
