Colorado GOP blames 'radical leftists' as hotel backs out of hosting Steve Bannon speech

A hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado has backed out of hosting a dinner that was to feature of keynote speech by convicted criminal podcast host Steve Bannon.

As the Denver Gazette reports, Colorado Springs restaurant The Antlers cancelled a reservation for the Bannon dinner as the Colorado Republican Party blamed "radical leftists" for creating an uproar online that supposedly forced the business to back out of the ordeal.

“Antifa, the Denver Democratic Socialists of America, and other radical Democrats are trying desperately to disrupt and cancel our event but we won't let them,” the party said in a statement posted on social media. "This dinner event will move forward with Steve Bannon."

According to the Gazette, the campaign against Bannon was spearheaded by a local business owner named James Proby, who led the charge against The Antlers hosting what anti-Bannon activists described as a "white supremacy gathering."

Bannon was convicted in 2022 of being in criminal contempt of Congress when he flatly refused to cooperate with the House Select Committee investigating the deadly riots that took place at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.

He would go on to spend several months in prison before being released ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
