On Tuesday, Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY) laid into Attorney General William Barr at his budgetary hearing before the House Appropriations Committee.
"I want to address aseries oversight matter: your unacceptable handling of specialcounsel Robert Mueller's report," said Lowey. "It's been reported that thereport is 300 to 400 pages, andI use the term 'reported' becausewe have no idea how long itactually is.All we have is your four-pagesummary which seems to cherry-pick from the report, to drawthe most favorable conclusionpossible for the president. And in many ways your letterraises more question than itanswers."
"I must say it is extraordinaryto evaluate hundreds of pages ofevidence, legal documents andfinding based on a 22-month-longinquiry and make definitivelegal conclusions in less than48 hours," Lowey continued. "Even for someone who had donethis job before, I would argueit's more suspicious thanimpressive."
Lowey then noted that Barr wrote a memo, before even being hired as attorney general, arguing that the president cannot obstruct justice. "Your audition clearly went well," she said sardonically. "I look forward to reviewing theMueller report myself.I know my constituents do aswell ... the American people deserve thefacts."
