'You literally voted against my bill yesterday': Rick Scott hammered over IVF support brag

Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) threw cold water on Republican Sen. Rick Scott's attempt to heat up his political campaign Friday when she took to X to share a simple fact.

"You can count on this grandpa to always protect IVF," Scott (R-FL) wrote above a cheerful campaign video.

"You literally voted against my bill to protect IVF yesterday," Duckworth immediately hit back.

Senate Republicans Thursday did indeed block the Duckworth-sponsored bill that would have guaranteed in vitro fertilization access nationwide. It would also have secured IVF for members of the uniformed services, veterans and people covered by Medicaid.

Among the 47 nay votes taken down in the Congressional record is one that came from Scott.

Less than 24 hours later — and after the Hill reported the Florida Republican is locked in a "closer than expected" race against Democratic challenger Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell — Scott posted a campaign ad that shows him cheerfully cavorting with his grandchildren.

"Each of my 7 grandkids is a precious gift from God," Scott wrote. "But sometimes families need help."

Duckworth's slap-back spurred a wave of angry questions directed at the Florida lawmaker.

"You voted against IVF yesterday, Senator. Did you forget?" replied Victoria Brownworth. "Fortunately we have the Congressional Record for members of Congress with memory issues."

"Are you just a bold faced liar?" asked Martina Navratilova. "Nevermind- it’s a rhetorical question."

"Why did you vote against securing rights to IVF?" asked Rachel Vindman. "I am your constituent @SenRickScott and this is a sincere question."

Republican Sen. John Cornyn told CNN he voted against the bill because it was not necessary, saying “Why should we vote for a bill that fixes a non-existent problem?"

In Vitro Fertilization access became a problem in Alabama three months ago when the state's Supreme Court ruled frozen embryos are legally children and spurred three major providers to pause services amid the backlash.

Earlier this week, NBC reported the nation's largest Protestant denomination came out publicly against IVF and urged congregants “to advocate for the government to restrain actions inconsistent with the dignity and value of every human being."
