Ted Cruz demands that Kavanaugh accuser testify 'respectfully' about her assault during Dallas debate

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said during a Friday debate with challenger Beto O'Rourke that there's a possibility he could change his "yes" vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. He then suggested he wants the woman who accused him of sexual assault to testify "respectfully" before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"Dr. Christine Blasey Ford may testify about her allegations of attempted sexual assault against Judge Brett Kavanaugh," the debate moderator asked Cruz. "Is there anything you could hear from her that could make you change your vote?"

"Absolutely," the senator responded, noting that he was among the Republicans who called for Ford to be treated with "respect" when and if she testifies before the Judiciary committee.

"I hope she comes and has a full opportunity to tell her story in a way that is respectful," Cruz said. "But I also think Judge Kavanaugh deserves a full opportunity to defend himself and to let the American people listen and come to an assessment of what happened."
