Ted Cruz reacts to bombshell Trump Jr emails by ripping media ‘obsession’ with Russia scandal

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) still doesn't think the Trump campaign did anything wrong when it comes to its interactions with Russian government officials -- even after bombshell emails revealed Donald Trump Jr. was told he'd be meeting with a Russian government lawyer to hear damaging information on Hillary Clinton.

Speaking with reporters on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, Cruz insisted that interest in the Russia scandal was simply a fixation of the media -- and that average American citizens couldn't care less.

"Washington is obsessed right now, it is the Democratic talking point du jour," Cruz told a gaggle of reporters. "But when I go back to Texas, nobody asks about Russia. You know, I've held town halls all across the state of Texas, you know how many questions I've got on Russia? Zero."

Cruz said that instead of the Russia scandal, real Americans were focused on repealing Obamacare and getting tax cuts, not whether the president of the United States colluded with a hostile foreign power to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.

Cruz's denial of the importance of the Russian scandal comes just as newly released emails from last year show that music publicist Rob Goldstone explicitly told Donald Trump Jr. that he could offer information to the Trump campaign that was “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”
