Texas Republican goes off on his Senate GOP colleague after Trump Jr. subpoena ignites right-wing fury

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) unleashed fury on his fellow Republicans for seeking to get Donald Trump Jr. to testify before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

News broke Wednesday that Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) had subpoenaed Trump Jr. to reappear before the committee.

"At some point, this is not about finding facts," Cornyn said. "This smacks of politics and I think we have an important job to do to try to keep the intel committee out of politics."

The younger Trump was questioned by the Senate Judiciary Committee behind closed doors about the notorious Trump Tower meeting. However, when the full report from special counsel Robert Mueller was released, it was discovered that Trump Jr. lied to senators in questions about the meeting and the information the president had about it.

He also said that his father was only "peripherally aware" of the Trump Tower Moscow plans. He also testified that he didn't give participants any information beyond asking if they could attend the meeting.

When asked if Trump Jr. told his father about the meeting, he told the Senate, "I did not."

The Mueller report says: "Michael Cohen recalled being in Donald J. Trump's official on June 6 or 7 when Trump Jr. told his father that a meeting to obtain adverse information about Clinton was going forward."
