Third victim in Planned Parenthood shootings identified as 36-year-old mom of two

A 36-year-old stay-at-home mother of two has been identified as the third person murdered by Christian extremist Robert Louis Dear at a Planned Parenthood location in Colorado Springs on Friday.

The Denver Post said that Jennifer Markovsky was shot dead in Dear's five hour rampage at the clinic, which her father John Ah-King confirmed on Sunday.

"She was the most lovable person," Ah-King told the Post by phone from his home in Hawaii. "So kind-hearted, just always there when I needed her."

"I couldn't believe it," the grieving father said. "I just messaged her Thursday to say happy Thanksgiving."

Jennifer Markovsky was a Hawaii native who met her husband Paul Markovsky when he was stationed there by the military. The two moved to Colorado a decade ago when Paul was transferred there.

Hawaii News Now said that Markovsky was at the clinic supporting a friend, who was also shot and injured, but survived.

Paul Markovsky's sister Julia Miller told the Post that her late sister-in-law was "just a really sweet woman that would do anything for everyone."

Miller said that her brother is devastated.

"He's struggling dealing with the children and everything its hard to let them know that their mother is gone," she told the Post's Jesse Paul.

"I'm still a little bit shocked," Miller said. "I don't think it's quite hit me. You hear about these horrible things all of the time, but this is so close to home."

The other two fatalities in the attack were identified as police officer Garrett Swasey and Iraq War veteran Ke'Arre M. Stewart.

When Dear was taken into custody, he was reportedly ranting about "baby parts" and President Barack Obama. Planned Parenthood has been the subject of a smear campaign by anti-abortion extremists who insist that the health agency is a major player in a thriving black market for fetal body parts.

Vicki Cowart, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Rocky Mountains released a statement blaming the attack on “hateful rhetoric”:

“Today, we are learning that eyewitnesses confirm that the man who will be charged with the tragic and senseless shooting that resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to nine others at Planned Parenthood’s health center in Colorado Springs was motivated by opposition to safe and legal abortion,” the statement said. “This is an appalling act of violence targeting access to health care and terrorizing skilled and dedicated health care professionals.”

In addition to the three dead, nine people were hurt in the attack.
