MAGA Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) expanded on eyebrow-raising allegations made against Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) floated early Tuesday morning by Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency initiative.
Musk, in a post to his X platform just before 1 a.m., wrote in a reply to Schumer: “Chuck, I’m starting to think you’re getting a piece of the action with the government fraud. But no, that couldn’t possibly be the reason, could it?”
“He’s probably discovered something about everybody,” Burchett, who sits on the House DOGE subcommittee, said Tuesday of Musk. “Elon’s got that paper trail.”
The MAGA lawmaker made the comments during an interview with right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson, who asked him about claims of “outright corruption” involving rentals of government buildings by members of Congress.
“Congressman, you must know something about this. Has Elon discovered something about Chuck Schumer?” Johnson asked.

“He told us in the meeting – our little private meeting – there’s a paper trail and it’s going back to Washington D.C.,” Burchett said. “And dadgummit, somebody better be let out of one of these buildings in handcuffs because this is real. This is going on, we see it all over – we see it in California with some of the elected officials out there – it’s been documented.”
Burchett added: “Nobody is willing to do anything about it.”
“And they get reelected and put right back in leadership,” he said. “And that’s why it’s so important to have a Justice Department that is not weaponized against the people, but is weaponized against corruption.”
But the Tennessee Republican concluded that he’s not sure whether his fellow lawmakers will have the “willpower to do it because Congress is gutless.”
“Everyday we ought to be demanding that these bills move forward and nobody is doing it, nobody” he said before adding: “I mean, a few of us are.”
