President Donald Trump boasted that he won “86% [of the] popular vote” in the 2024 election during his latest Time interview — but the magazine’s fact-checkers deflated that claim with the actual results.
It was one of 12 claims from Trump’s Sept. 28 wide-ranging White House interview that Time examined Thursday.
“He won the popular vote by receiving 49.8% of the vote to Kamala Harris' 48.3%,” the magazine said. Trump won the Electoral College by 86 votes, with 312 to Harris’ 226.
“He’s conflating two figures,” Time concluded.
The magazine also poked holes in Trump’s claim that he is overwhelmingly popular in Israel.
“We're popular [in Israel], like 99%,” Trump said.
“A poll showing a 99% approval rating for Trump among Israelis does not exist,” Time reported. It instead cited a 2026 Pew Research Center survey finding that 66% of Israelis have confidence in him.
Trump also claimed his September GOP midterm convention speech drew 107 million views, even beating the NFL’s season opener.
“The Facts: the ratings tell a different story,” Time’s fact-checkers wrote Thursday.
His roughly two-hour speech averaged 2.5 million viewers on Fox News, which carried it exclusively, according to Nielsen data cited by Time. NBC said the football game averaged 25.1 million viewers.
The sweeping interview covered everything from the war in Iran to immigration and the economy.
