'You told Trump he could keep the documents': Judicial Watch leader's new legal strategy brutally mocked

Judicial Watch leader Tom Fitton, the non-lawyer whose legal advice to Donald Trump led to the former president's indictment, came out with a new scheme to help Trump avoid jail time on Thursday.

In a new video he posted to his Twitter account, Fitton argued that special counsel Jack Smith cannot prosecute former President Donald Trump on the grounds that he was not confirmed as a United States attorney by the Senate.

This has not stopped special prosecutors such as John Durham and Robert Mueller from bringing criminal charges against people in the past, and Fitton never raised objections when the Trump-appointed Durham leveled indictments against three individuals in his probe.

Fitton acknowledged that raising this kind of issue was unlikely to go anywhere if brought before D.C. federal courts, but he did think more conservative-leaning courts in Florida might take a look at it.

Given Fitton's total lack of qualifications to be discussing legal strategy, however, many of his Twitter followers were quick to mock him for his newest video.

"Says the guy who told Trump he could keep the documents!!" wrote one user, referring to the fact that Fitton incorrectly told Trump he had the right to horde top-secret military documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort when he was no longer president. "Thanks, Tom!!"

"You aren’t even a lawyer," wrote another. "How the hell would you know? We saw how your advise not to return the stolen documents went."

"Says the non-lawyer who gave Trump legal advice that landed him being arrested and charged," another Twitter user added.
