Tom Selleck accused of stealing truckloads of water from fire hydrant for his avocado ranch

Actor Tom Selleck had truckloads of water from a public fire hydrant delivered to his home over the past two years, according to a complaint filed by a Ventura County water district.

The Calleguas Municipal Water District filed a complaint Monday that accused the former “Magnum P.I.” star of trucking water more than a dozen times since 2013 from a hydrant in Thousand Oaks to his 60-acre ranch in Westlake Village, reported the Los Angeles Times.

Authorities said Selleck, who currently stars on “Blue Bloods,” and his wife are prohibited from using the hydrant’s water because their home is located in the Hidden Valley Municipal Water District.

The actor and his wife, Jillie, have lived nearly 30 years at the ranch, where they grow avocados.

The water district ordered Selleck to stop trucking in water in November 2013, but investigators said they spotted a white truck filling up at the same hydrant at least four times in March 2015 and taking water to the actor’s ranch.

Residents have been asked to cut water usage by 25 percent as California endures a record drought.

The county seeks $22,000 from Selleck to pay a private investigator hired to monitor the actor’s water usage, in addition to a court order barring him from taking water from the Calleguas district.
