Latest insurrection lawsuit aimed at blocking Trump from ballot dismissed: court records

A federal judge on Monday dismissed a presidential candidate's lawsuit to block former president Donald Trump from Rhode Island’s ballot in 2024, court records show.

Republican hopeful John Anthony Castro challenged Trump’s eligibility under the 14th Amendment, arguing the former president aided an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, according to court records.

Trump’s team celebrated the dismissal of the longshot case as a victory against election interference.

“Courts in Colorado, New Hampshire, Minnesota, and Michigan have all dismissed similar claims by political actors seeking to interfere with the presidential election and help the failing campaign of Crooked Joe Biden,” said spokesperson Steven Cheung.

“President Trump remains undefeated in beating back these spurious claims.”

Castro has filed dozens of similar lawsuits in other states, and last month saw his case dismissed in New Hampshire last month.

Castro reportedly filed an appeal and told the Boston Globe, “This is all going as planned.”

The Republican write-in candidate is not tied to the ongoing 14th Amendment challenge in Colorado and the recently dismissed lawsuit in Minnesota.
