'Pay up!' Trump again hits NATO in response to Biden criticism

Donald Trump doubled down Wednesday on his claims that NATO members aren't paying enough.

President Joe Biden on Tuesday denounced Trump's invitation to Russia to "do whatever the hell they want" to member nations who were "delinquent" in their dues, calling his remarks "dumb," "shameful" and "dangerous," and the ex-president fired back a day later on his social media platform.

"Could somebody please inform our uninformable President that NATO has to pay their bills!" Trump posted on Truth Social.

"They are right now paying a small fraction of what we are for the Disaster in Ukraine which, if we had a real President, would never have happened. There is probably a $150 Billion difference. They should equalize with the U.S. - FAST! The European Nations, when combined, have approximately the same size Economy as we do. They have the money. PAY UP!"

Member nations are committed to spending 2 percent of their GDP on their own militaries so the alliance is capable of meeting alliance obligations and credibly deter Russia, and 11 of the 30 NATO members were meeting that target as of last year, up from just three in 2014, according to CNN.
