The threat of an America First party stepping into the breach in 2028, representing disaffected former MAGA supporters, is being laughed at inside the White House.
Discussions about forming a new political party have moved beyond social media manifestos into substantive donor conversations and organizational planning, according to sources tracking the effort.
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) reported broad support for the initiative when speaking with Politico Playbook.
"The support is overwhelming," she claimed. "My phone hasn't stopped ringing with calls from across the political spectrum since our viral photo, and I'm really surprised by the number of large donors wanting to donate in big ways to help it."
Greene articulated the movement's core argument: "The two-party system is a complete and total failure. I am 100% totally completely disgusted with both parties."
However, a Tucker Carlson presidential campaign is not part of current planning. Greene confirmed the former Fox News personality has stated publicly and privately that he is not running for president, and she ruled out her own candidacy.
However, Politico reported that Carlson's position may not be entirely fixed. Two people close to Carlson told Politico his calculus could shift depending on circumstances. "He won't run against JD Vance. He will very likely run if Trump endorses Rubio," a Carlson associate said.
The White House is dismissive of the entire effort, with Politico reporting, "Trump world is rolling its eyes."
"Carlson has no impact on administration policy. He has no impact on D.C. policy from lawmakers. There is no discernible impact from him or his show on anything—it's just a circle j--k," one member of Trump's inner circle quipped.
Said another, "He's not building a new party, he's building a new subscription model."
