Trump announces MAGA rally in the wake of incendiary comments after New Zealand mosque massacre

President Donald Trump announced an upcoming Make America Great Again rally — hours after making remarks about an "invasion" of immigrants in the wake of a white supremacist massacre at two mosques in New Zealand.

New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman noted on Twitter that the Trump campaign announced a March 28 MAGA rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Friday afternoon.

Earlier in the afternoon, the president remarked that an "invasion" of immigrants were entering the United States via its southern border with Mexico. He also admitted to knowing that the term could be upsetting.

"People hate the word invasion," Trump said, "but that’s what it is."

Trump also told reporters that he does not see white nationalism as a rising threat.

"I think it’s a small group of people," the president said of white nationalists. He also added that it's too soon to tell if the alleged shooter was a white supremacist.
