Trump-appointed US Attorney refuses to confirm or deny that a GOP campaign is under election fraud investigation

A Trump-appointed U.S. attorney refused to confirm or deny whether his office is investigating claims of election fraud in North Carolina's 9th Congressional District -- in spite of indications from state investigators that such a probe is underway.

Huffington Post reported that Robert Higdon Jr., the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, would not admit that there is an investigation into claims that an operative working for Republican congressional candidate Mark Harris tampered with absentee ballots.

A spokesperson for the prosecutor told HuffPost they "cannot confirm or deny any investigation" in the 9th District -- part of which is in Higdon's jurisdiction, the report noted.

As HuffPost pointed out, the Trump appointee "has taken pains to prosecute a certain category of suspected voter fraud ― namely, individual cases that involve immigrants who mistakenly thought they were eligible to vote."

The report also noted that Harris' 28-year-old son works under Higdon as an assistant U.S. attorney.
