President Donald Trump can't stop talking about the possibility that Iran wants him dead — and lately, he sounds almost pleased about it, according to a new report.
Anti-aircraft batteries now ring his golf properties, and reports surfaced this that during his trip to Turkey last week he quietly ducked into a catering truck and then flew to London on a smaller aircraft in response to intelligence that Iran might strike Air Force One, and MS NOW reported that Trump has become obsessed.
"In public and private, Trump keeps musing about the possibility that Iran might assassinate him," MS NOW reported. "Depending on the day, the prospect is floated as a simple fact of life, a warning to potential perpetrators and even a point of pride for the world’s most powerful leader."
"The comments suggest that if Iranian leaders want Trump to be concerned about his safety six months into his war," the report added, "they are succeeding."
A senior Secret Service official said last month the agency is reviewing roughly 10,000 threat cases, a 40 percent jump from the prior year and the highest volume in agency history. "[The] threat environment is the highest we have seen," the official said.
Two law enforcement sources said the surge has pushed the agency to install anti-aircraft and anti-drone defenses at Trump's Bedminster, New Jersey, and West Palm Beach, Florida, properties — protections absent during his first term.
Iran's animus toward Trump predates this presidency, tracing to the 2020 drone strike that killed IRGC general Qassem Soleimani. Prosecutors have since brought retaliation-linked cases, including a 2022 plot against former security adviser John Bolton and a 2024 scheme allegedly targeting both Trump and dissident Masih Alinejad.
Trump has revisited the threat repeatedly, often with a fatalistic shrug. After Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a joint U.S.-Israeli operation on Feb. 28, he told ABC News: "I got him before he got me. They tried twice. Well, I got him first."
In a New York Post interview last month, describing orders he'd left for massive retaliation if Iran killed him, he said: "I've been No. 1 for a long time, and it's the way life is, you know. I hope you'll miss me."
Appearing alongside NATO chief Mark Rutte in Ankara, before he was spirited out of the country in a secret aircraft, he boasted: "They want to take out the U.S. leader — me. I'm on every list. I saw a thing this morning, I'm on every single one of their lists, and so far I guess I've been a little bit lucky, but that maybe doesn't last very long."
He returned to the subject of his own death again this week, telling reporters that the threats proved his significance.
"Any consequential president has a lot of threats," he said. "I think that I'm maybe the most consequential president."
