Trump-backed candidates are losing the money race against impeachment-supporting GOP incumbents

Former President Donald Trump's endorsement hasn't exactly been golden — at least not yet — in 2022 mid-term races.

Senate candidates endorsed by Trump are falling behind their GOP rivals in fundraising, according to the latest campaign finance reports. And none of the nine remaining House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump was out-raised by a GOP challenger.

"Former President Donald J. Trump has been doing a lot of endorsing in Republican primaries ahead of the 2022 midterms," the New York Times reported Tuesday night. "His backing is, by far, the most coveted in the party. But a Trump blessing has not necessarily translated to a cash boom for those Senate hopefuls he backs, the records show."

Alabama GOP Congressman Mo Brooks, endorsed by Trump in his Senate campaign, was "badly out-raised for the second consecutive quarter," the Times reports. Brooks brought in just $670,000 from July through September, compared to GOP rival Katie Boyd Britt's $1.5 million.

Meanwhile, Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski outraised her Trump-endorsed GOP challenger, Kelly Tshibaka, by a margin of two-to-one. Trump endorsed Tshibaka after Murkowski voted to convict him for inciting the Capitol insurrection.

In the House, Trump has likewise focused on defeating Republicans who voted to impeach him.

"One such Republican has already retired," the Times reports, referring to Ohio Rep. Anthony Gonzalez. "But none of the other nine House Republicans who voted to impeach Mr. Trump in January were out-raised last quarter by a primary challenger, with Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming setting the pace by raising $1.7 million."

In other Senate races, North Carolina GOP Congressman Ted Budd, endorsed by Trump, was beaten out by former Gov. Pat McCrory in the third quarter. And while Fox News regular Sean Parnell appeared to get a fundraising boost from Trump's endorsement in the Pennsylvania Senate race, GOP opponent Carla Sands gave her campaign $3 million from her personal fortune.
