President Donald Trump lashed out at a new target for his anger in a Monday morning social media post.
The president spent the weekend posting dozens of times on Truth Social, posting phony mugshots of Barack Obama and an AI-generated video of him being arrested, as well as demanding the Washington Commanders and Cleveland Guardians resume using their former, derogatory team names, before turning his attention to cashless bail.
"Crime in American Cities started to significantly rise when they went to CASHLESS BAIL," Trump posted. "The WORST criminals are flooding our streets and endangering even our great law enforcement officers. It is a complete disaster, and must be ended, IMMEDIATELY!"
It's not clear what prompted his outburst on cashless bail, which eliminates or minimized the use of monetary bail allowing defendants to be released from custody while awaiting trial.
He has, however, reportedly been desperate to take his MAGA base's attention away from the Jeffrey Epstein case that's fueled their outrage for more than a week after Trump's attorney general declared the pedophile did not leave behind an incriminating client list.
Trump falsely claimed in May 2024 that he had to put up bail in his New York hush money case, saying New York City was violent because other defendants did not have to post bail.
Like many other defendants charged with non-violent crimes, Trump was released on his own recognizance, although he was required to post $200,000 bond in his separate election subversion case in Fulton County, Georgia.
