'Death Wish for The Republican Party': Trump rants against border deal
February 05, 2024
Donald Trump made it abundantly clear that he opposed the Senate's bipartisan border bill that Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) remains optimistic will pass.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said the bill would be "dead on arrival" if it reaches the House, and Trump ratcheted up the pressure on Republican lawmakers to stop the bill from passing in a Monday morning post on Truth Social.
"Only a fool, or a Radical Left Democrat, would vote for this horrendous Border Bill, which only gives Shutdown Authority after 5000 Encounters a day, when we already have the right to CLOSE THE BORDER NOW, which must be done," Trump posted. "This Bill is a great gift to the Democrats, and a Death Wish for The Republican Party. It takes the HORRIBLE JOB the Democrats have done on Immigration and the Border, absolves them, and puts it all squarely on the shoulders of Republicans."

The $118 billion bill includes foreign aid to Israel, Taiwan and Ukraine, along with stricter immigration and asylum laws, and Johnson has said the House would vote on a standalone bill to provide aid to Israel as part of his effort to kill the Senate deal.
"Don’t be STUPID!!! We need a separate Border and Immigration Bill," Trump posted. "It should not be tied to foreign aid in any way, shape, or form! The Democrats broke Immigration and the Border. They should fix it. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"
