MSNBC legal analyst and former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner said Friday the White House inauguration spending may have broken as many as three laws -- and that President Donald Trump likely knew about it.
Kirschner called Trump's convicted former fixer Michael Cohen "the gift that keeps on giving" after investigators found documents and tape indicating illegal donations and more linked to the inaugural committee.
"There are three crimes, potentially, in play here," Kirschner said. "One is a prohibition against foreign donations to an inaugural fund. The other is for donating money in exchange for political favors and the third is misuse of donated funds."
"Hold on tight because here we go again," Kirschner added, saying it was highly likely the president knew funds were being misused.
"We've all heard reported over and over again that nothing really happened without consultation with Donald Trump, certainly with his organization," he said. "We can assume that pattern may have held when he was in that period when he was the president-elect into the time after his inauguration."
