MAGA senator squirms after Kaitlan Collins corners him on Trump's 'Democrat plot'

Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) looked uncomfortable during an interview as he was faced with a question about Trump's accusation of a "Democrat plot" to kill him.

On Tuesday, Moreno appeared on CNN for an interview with anchor Kaitlan Collins. Trump had said that day that he found new information that the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, was part of a "Democrat plot" to try to kill him, Collins mentioned.

"I looked through the highlights of what has come out. I don't see anything that points to that," Collins said. "Have you seen anything that points to that?"

"What's crystal clear to everybody is that the amount of security to protect President Trump at that rally was definitely lacking," Moreno responded. "How do you have the only structures with a line of sight to the president, and nobody checked that roof? That's crazy."

Moreno then went on about how "all Americans" need to "ask ourselves, how did we have such a catastrophic failure?" and added "we should mourn" the lives of the people who were killed. However, he didn't directly answer Collins' question about whether Trump had really revealed a "Democrat plot."

"But does that say that it was a Democratic plot to kill him?" Collins pressed, which slowed Moreno down as he looked for a way to get off the hook.

"Well, my understanding, and again, I haven't gone through the information, but my understanding is that the request was made to beef up security from the Secret Service and that the Biden administration declined," Moreno said. "They did not offer the kind of protection that's customary."

"But does that equal Democratic plot to kill the president in your view?" Collins continued. "That's a serious allegation."

"Well, in the sense that, in the sense that," Moreno stumbled. "In the sense that, in the sense that the administration is a Democratic administration and, for whatever reason, we should find out...we should all ask the question, why was the security not provided?"
