Trump's Jan. 6 executive privilege hearing set for Nov. 4 after federal judge expedites case

A federal judge has agreed to expedite oral arguments in a lawsuit brought by former President Donald Trump, in which he asserts that documents requested by the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol insurrection are protected by executive privilege.

"U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who was designated by random assignment to hear the lawsuit, on Friday signed off an agreement by Trump and the committee to expedite the case for a Nov. 4 oral argument," Reuters reported Friday afternoon.

On Monday, Trump sued both the committee and the National Archives. In addition to claiming executive privilege, Trump's lawyers argue that the committee lacks a valid legislative purpose, calling it a "vexatious, illegal fishing expedition."

Experts have panned Trump's legal arguments, and said he appears to be trying to run out the clock on the committee's investigation.
