Conservative attorney George Conway says President Donald Trump’s campaign speeches have gone from bad to “asinine.” He pointed to the president’s recent comments about Sen. Jon Husted’s backside as proof.
On MS NOW’s “The Weekend” on Sunday, host Jonathan Capehart contrasted Trump’s rallies with former President Barack Obama’s first midterm rallies.
“One president focused on a lot of issues during his campaign rally. Another president focused on men’s behinds,” Capehart said. “I’m just quoting the president.”
Conway, a longtime Trump critic, said he “can’t wait for the campaign to be in the rear view mirror.”
“Trump is moving to the asinine,” Conway said. He ran through the list: “It’s either Husted’s butt,” Trump’s riffs on transgender students, or “the helipad and the gold” at the White House.
He also mocked Trump’s recent boast about the money flowing in from high gas prices.
“And now he’s saying that we’re making so much money off the gasoline, selling gasoline now. Isn’t it great? I love the billions,” Conway said. “Like, okay, he’s out of his mind.”
“That’s how he makes everything about himself now,” he added. “Me, me, me.”
Conway argued that Trump’s narcissism helped get him elected because voters wanted “to be part of something big.” Now, he said, they’re realizing “he doesn’t care about me.”
“People are figuring it out,” Conway said on Sunday.
Capehart said Obama’s petty jabs at Trump land because “it’s about where Donald Trump’s focus is.”
“Barack Obama would not be talking about … Saddam Hussein’s Cheesecake Factory at the White House,” Capehart said, referring to Obama’s viral line from a rally this week. “I like Cheesecake Factory, for the record.”
