Trump gets turned down by yet another chief of staff candidate as Chris Christie withdraws

Another day, another potential White House chief of staff turning down President Donald Trump.

Although it was reported on Friday that former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was the front runner to be Trump's next chief of staff, Christie abruptly announced that he was taking himself out of the running.

"I've told the president that now is not the right time for me or my family to undertake this serious assignment," Christie said, in a statement posted by the New York Times' Maggie Haberman. "As a result, I have asked him to no longer keep me in any of his considerations for this post."

Washington Post reporter Josh Dawsey further writes that he had just been told mere hours ago that Christie "was a leading contender for chief of staff" and was about to file a report about it right before Christie announced he was taking himself out of the running.

Before getting turned down by Christie, Trump was similarly turned down by Nick Ayers, the former chief of staff for Vice President Mike Pence. Although Ayers had reportedly been offered the job by the president, he decided against taking it because he did not want to commit to serving in the position for two years.
