Trump curses out ex-adviser after misdialing him: report

President Donald Trump accidentally called his estranged former National Security Adviser, H.R. McMaster — and then cursed him out when he realized what had happened, according to CBS News on Wednesday night.

"McMaster, who had served as national security adviser during President Trump's first term and was ousted after 13 months, was surprised to hear from Mr. Trump at all," said the report. "Just a day earlier, on March 2, Mr. Trump had lobbed his latest insult at McMaster, blasting him on social media as a 'weak and totally ineffective loser.' McMaster had also just appeared on CBS' '60 Minutes,' where he voiced skepticism about Mr. Trump's overtures to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Putin's willingness to end the war in Ukraine."

Then, Trump opened the call by saying "Henry..." and McMaster, whose first name is actually Herbert, realized Trump had called the wrong number.

"Mr. President, this is H.R. McMaster," he replied, upon which Trump snapped, "Why the f--- would I talk to H.R. McMaster?" and launched into a volley of insults. The call ended shortly thereafter.

Trump apparently had meant to call Gov. Henry McMaster (R-SC), who shares a first initial and surname with his former national security adviser.

Asked for comment, Trump's communications director Steven Cheung, known for his puerile and ad hominem responses for comment on various issues, said, "H.R. McMaster has completely beclowned himself and his third-rate book, which is now sold in the bargain bin of the fiction section of a discount bookstore, is filled with lies in a futile attempt to rehabilitate his tattered reputation."

McMaster, a lieutenant general, has spoken harshly of his time working for Trump, whom he said constantly pitted his allies against one another and was incapable of distinguishing sound advice from the praise of yes-men.
