Trump: I sometimes carry a gun to be 'unpredictable' -- and I would allow them in my hotels

Donald Trump revealed that he sometimes arms himself during Wednesday's primetime Republican presidential candidate debate.

"I do carry on occasion," said Trump, who has a permit to do so in New York state. "Sometimes a lot, but I like to be unpredictable so people don't know exactly when I'm carrying. Unlike our country, where we're totally predictable and the enemy, whether it's ISIS or anybody else, they know exactly what we're doing because we have the wrong leadership."

Trump did not say whether he had been armed during events where immigration advocates have been attacked by his supporters or his security staff.

The real estate mogul was responding to a question regarding his criticism of "gun-free zones" following the mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon earlier this year.

"I think gun-free zones are a catastrophe," he said.

CNBC moderator Carl Quintanilla then told Trump that several of his resorts did not allow guests to bring firearms, even if they had a permit.

"Would you change those policies?" he asked the candidate.

"I would change them," Trump responded.
