Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani takes a shot at Republican Trey Gowdy -- and says he 'really screwed up' Benghazi

Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani has taken a shot at Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), who has been consistently skeptical of President Donald Trump's fact-free conspiracy theories about a "deep state" plot to destroy his presidency.

Per CNN's Manu Raju, Giuliani on Thursday told CNN's Dana Bash that Gowdy's dismissal of the president's assorted conspiracy theories shows that he's "drinking the Kool-Aid" being given to him by American law enforcement agencies.

For good measure, Giuliani also ripped Gowdy's handling of the Benghazi investigation, which had previous made him a hero of conservatives and Republicans across the country for its role in damaging the reputation of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"I never understood what he did with Benghazi either," Giuliani said. "He really screwed that up. I don’t know what he was doing."

After being given a briefing last week by Department of Justice officials about the role of a confidential informant in investigating Trump campaign's ties to Russian agents, Gowdy stated that he did not believe that federal law enforcement agencies had done anything improper.
