Trump scores cash from billionaire backers who funded civil fraud prosecutor's campaign

Nemeses New York Attorney General Letitia James and former President Donald Trump pitted against one another in his $464 million civil fraud trial, have billionaire backers in common, a new report reveals.

Campaign finance reports cited by Newsweek show grocery store CEO John Catsimatidis' wife, Margo, and son, John Jr., each donated $18,000 to James' campaign on Dec. 21, 2023.

Catsimatidis and his wife previously contributed $515,000 to Trump's previous campaign efforts, the report explained.

Thus far, Margo and her son donated a combined $33,100 to Trump's 2024 campaign and his Save America PAC, according to the filings.

The Catsimatidis' daughter, Andrea, chairs the Manhattan Republican Party and frequently posts photos of herself in low cut dresses with Trump. Her father is a vocal supporter of the former president, but he was also a big donor to Bill Clinton and in 2008, helped raise money for Hillary Clinton's presidential efforts.

"If you're putting it in the same context of Donald Trump vs. Ron DeSantis, I would pick Donald Trump in a second," the elder Catsimatidis told the Washington Examiner last year.

Catsimatidis was born in Greece but was brought to the United States when he was just six months old. He began working at a grocery store partially owned by his uncle when he graduated from high school. As he tells it, he "acquired" a stake in the supermarket, the Daily Mail said in a profile.

"In recent years, however, Catsimatidis has been a vocal Trump supporter," the report notes. "Just last week, he was listed as a co-chair of the mega Trump fundraiser in Palm Beach that raised over $50 million for the former president's campaign."
